Continuity

Continuity

180 Degree Rule

The 180 degree is the rule that means a scene should only be shot from one side of the room/area, and should always stay behind the line. This ensures that the characters don't flip from different sides of the scene and that the background stays the same.

Shot-reverse-shot

A shot-reverse-shot is usually used in a scene which involves a conversation, to show action and reaction. The scene is usually shot over one character's shoulder to show one of them asking a question, then over the other character's shoulder to show them replying.

Match on action

Match on action is a technique used when an action needs to continue through to a completely separate scene, but still look the same. For example, their could be a close up of somebody's hand opening a door, but then the scene is cut to a shot at the other side of the door, but the door still looks to open in one swift motion.
